Income / Return from Jatropha plantation

According to the study conducted by JAPL expertise, one Jatropha tree yields up to 2 – 3 kg Jatropha seeds per year in normal condition without drip irrigation. There are 2500 plants cultivable on 1 hectare land. Therefore total yield per hectare per year will be 5000 kg / 5 tonnes. Jatropha seed contains 30% – 35% oil & 65% – 70% oil cake.

The calculations in the table below are based upon:

  1. Jatropha plants cultivation per hectare = 2500 plants
  2. Jatropa seeds yield per hectare = 5000 kg
  3. Jatropha Oil per hectare (@ 30%) = 1500 kg / 1755 liters (@ Sp. Gr. 0.85%)
  4. Quantity of Bio-diesel (@ 95% of Jatropha oil) = 1668 liters
  5. Cost of Bio-diesel (announced by the Govt. of India @ Rs.26.50 / liter) = Rs.44, 000/-
  6. Cost of Bio-diesel (US$) = US$ 1, 000
  7. Quantity of De-Oiled cake (70%) = 3500 kg
  8. Cost of the De-oiled Cake (@ Rs.2/- per kg) = Rs.7, 000/-
  9. Cost of the De-oiled Cake (US$) = US$ 160
  10. Total Income from Bio-diesel & De-oiled Cake = Rs.51, 000/-
  11. Total Income from Bio-diesel & De-oiled Cake (US$) = US$ 1, 160
